An 11-year-old child was shot dead and five more people wounded — including including at least three other children — Friday night in Cincinnati’s West End.
Police Chief Teresa Theetge said the shooting took place just before 9:30 p.m. near Laurel Playground, WCPO reported.
“This is absolutely unacceptable in our city,” Theetge said. “Unacceptable.”
Police did not provide the ages of the other children, but said three victims were taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and two more to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
The children’s hospital said Saturday morning that one of its patients was treated and released and the other two were “critical but stable.” UC Medical Center said both victims taken there were treated and released.
Police initially planned a news conference for Saturday afternoon but delayed it until Sunday afternoon to gather more details.
