13-Year-Old Boy Murders Dad After Years of Abuse, Judge Denies Release – Crime Online

On Thursday, a judge denied the release of a 13-year-old boy who allegedly killed his father on Sunday.

Defense attorneys said Travis Dash — who was found dead with puncture wounds — was a long-term drug user who had a lengthy criminal history which included domestic violence charges. The boy’s attorneys claimed he was subjected to a lifetime of abuse and is not receiving psychological care while housed at a youth detention center, according to the D.C. Witness.

The Washington Post reported that the teen’s mother left the home on Saturday and returned on Sunday before calling her 10-year-old son to accompany her to the grocery store. The mother was outside when the 10-year-old reportedly called back and claimed he found Dash unconscious and bleeding in the apartment.

One of the children in the home told police that Dash had been arguing in the home shortly before he was stabbed, according to The Washington Post.

A trial date is set for January 2, but a court hearing is scheduled for November 30 to further discuss the 13-year-old’s release status.

The teen’s identity has not been disclosed as he is facing a murder charge as a juvenile.
