A man has been arrested for killing a 14-year-old Illinois girl who reportedly vanished on Thursday and found dead hours later.
Kylie Toberman was reported missing from her Vandalia home hours before she was discovered dead in an RV behind her residence. KSDK reported that Arnold Rivera Jr., 43, a relative who lived in the RV, sexually assaulted Toberman and strangled her with jumper cables before stashing her body in a tote.
At the time of her death, Toberman was living with her adoptive mother and two sisters.
“She didn’t deserve this,” Toberman’s biological mother told KSDK.
KTVI reported that in 2000, Rivera was charged in Macon County with burglary and sexually abusing a child between the ages of 9 and 16, but the case was dismissed the following year.
In this case, Rivera is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and concealing a homicidal death. He remains jailed without bond, as his arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
