2 charged after argument at Detroit liquor store ends in fatal stabbing with broken bottle

DETROIT (TCN) — Two people have been charged with premeditated first-degree murder in connection with a fatal assault inside a liquor store.

Just before midnight on March 10, 31-year-old Bernice Shaneka Chenevert got into an argument with 30-year-old Cordell Harris at a liquor store, WJBK reports. Chenevert then allegedly gave a broken bottle to 54-year-old Steven Lewis Hooks.

Hooks allegedly stabbed Harris in the neck multiple times, according to WJBK. CBS News reports Harris died of his injuries at the hospital.

Both Chenevert and Hooks were charged with premeditated first-degree murder and arraigned on March 13; they are currently being held in jail. Both will appear in court on March 23 for a probable cause conference, according to WJBK. ClickOnDetroit reports bond was denied. If convicted, each could face life in prison.
