2 Dead, 8 Injured in Shooting at California Party, Police Say – Crime Online

A shooting in downtown Los Angeles during a New Year’s Day party resulted in two fatalities and eight injuries, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police responded at 1 a.m. to a shooting report at the 2300 block of Porter Street in Los Angeles, and discovered multiple people injured on the street and sidewalk. Two of the victims, a man and a woman, succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Another eight people were wounded and hospitalized.

“At this time, we have two confirmed fatalities,”  Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Ryan Whiteman said. “The victims were described as a male and a female who were in their 20s.”

As of Monday evening, the conditions of the injured remain unknown.

“I saw a girl that got hit, and then I saw the dead girl — right here, in front of my car,” Uber driver Mike B. told ABC 7, adding that he was in the middle of the shooting when he arrived to pick up some passengers at the party.

“There’s a guy 20 feet to my left side and there’s an SUV on the right side. I believe they were shooting at each other. Now, when I ducked, kind of instantly, I heard a lot more gunfire. I don’t know where that other gunfire came from.”

So far, no suspects have been named or arrested.
