DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) — Law enforcement officials are searching for answers after two teens were killed and several others were shot at a Sweet 16 party over the weekend.
According to Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jon Mauney, on Saturday, March 4, at 10:41 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Sitka Drive in reference to a shots fired call and found several people in the surrounding street and woods. One victim was deceased in the middle of the road and another person was killed in the driveway. Mauney said seven others ranging in age from 14 to 19 years old suffered gunshot wounds, and all went to local hospitals either by ambulance or in their own cars.
Mauney said the shooting occurred outside the home on the street.
The two victims who died have been identified as 15-year-old Samuel Moon and 14-year-old AJ’anaye “AJ” Hill.
Mauney said there was a large party at a home on Sitka Drive and the “number of attendees rapidly grew” throughout the night. The homeowners shut down the party after marijuana use, and the shooting occurred not long after the festivities ended.
WAGA-TV reports teens were at the residence for a Sweet 16 party, and according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, more than 100 people were in attendance.
Several witnesses fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, and Mauney called on the public to come forward with information regarding the shooting.
The Sheriff’s Office is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting.
