A 2-year-old girl was found roaming her Texas neighborhood alone and wearing nothing but a dirty diaper, and now her parents face felony charges.
Alexandrea Prewett, 33, and Benito Lopez, 35, were arrested on Sunday by Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies after neighbors called to report that the couple’s toddler was “running near a busy street before entering a nearby residence.” The little girl was found by police sitting on the sidewalk, and she was described as being “extremely dirty, unkempt, and was wearing a heavily soiled diaper.”
But when police entered the home where she lived with her parents, they allegedly found an even worse sight.

According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, deputies entered the home on Eutrophic Circle and allegedly found “filthy hoarding conditions.” Prewett was inside and confirmed to police that she was the girl’s mother. She was detained while police called Lopez, who returned home and was also detained.
Local NBC affiliate WOAI reported that while the 2-year-old was by herself outside, the temperature was more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Both Prewett and Lopez were booked into the Bexar County Jail on charges of child endangerment. They posted bond and were released the same day they were arrested. Local ABC affiliate KSAT reported that the little girl was taken to the hospital after she was examined by first responders and that Child Protective Services was notified. Police said in their Facebook post that she was uninjured.
It is not clear who has custody of the girl now.
