TIFFIN, Ohio (TCN) — Four people are dead, including a 7-month-old baby and a 7-year-old child, following an apparent murder‑suicide.
Police were called to a residence at 6:24 p.m. on Nov. 19 after neighbors reported gunshots and screaming, according to a Tiffin Police Department news release. When officers arrived, they found four people suffering from gunshot wounds: a 7-year-old child, a 7-month-old infant, and two men
The suspected shooter was identified as 42-year-old Ryan Eagon. Before taking his own life, he had allegedly shot his infant son, his 7-year-old stepson, and 29-year-old Dustin Willey, who was at the home to help the children’s mother pack and leave because of alleged domestic issues, an investigation revealed. Willey was the father of the 7-year-old child.Â
USA Today reports the children’s mother and Willey had made a plan for them to leave when Eagon was believed to be working out of town.
Police said the mother heard her 7-year-old scream in the front yard and saw Eagon in the driveway when she went outside. According to witnesses and physical evidence, police allege Eagon shot both children before shooting Willey and then turning the gun on himself.
The woman took both injured children into the house and dialed 911, USA Today reports. Willey and one of the children were pronounced dead at the scene and the other child was taken to a hospital, where he later died, the outlet reports.
CBS News reports that the mother was physically unharmed, but law enforcement said she was in a state of shock, overwhelmed, and visibly traumatized.
The mother’s identity has not been released. The investigation is active and autopsies are pending.
