4 of 8 Juveniles Charged in Classmate’s Beating Death Ordered Held Without Bond – Crime Online

Four of the eight juveniles accused in the beating death of a 17-year-old classmate were ordered held without bond on Friday as they made their first appearance in the adult court system.

Two 16-year-olds and two 17-year-olds appeared in separate hearings and were ordered held until another court date on Tuesday, when the judge may consider bail, the Associated Press reported.

Four more students, between the ages of 13 and 16, have yet to make an appearance. All eight are charged with murder.

The eight are charged in the beating death of Jonathan Lewis on November 1, when students met after school to fight over stolen wireless headphones and a vape pen.

The fight was captured on cell phone video and shared across social media. Police said they are still working to identify two other students involved in the melee. Both of them will be charged with murder.

The 16- and 17-year-olds were automatically transferred to adult court under Nevada law.

None of the suspects have been formally charged.

Certification proceedings will be held for the four children under 16 to determine if they will be charged as adults.
