The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has disclosed the identity of a 5-year-old boy who lost his life in a Sunday morning shooting in Bessemer, which also resulted in injuries to an adult male.
According to AL.com, the victim has been identified as Brandon Jamal Nation III, of Fairfield. As of Monday morning, investigators said two unidentified individuals are being questioned, but no charges have been filed at this time.
The incident occurred at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue North, when Brandon’s mother took him to the residence for a haircut. According to Bessemer Police Detective Justin Burmeister, both Brandon and an adult male barber were outside when an unidentified assailant opened fire on the house, discharging multiple shots.
Brandon and the barber were both struck during the incident. First responders rushed the child to Children’s of Alabama, where he was pronounced dead. The barber is reportedly at an area hospital in critical condition.
“We know someone not at the house shot towards the house,” Burmeister said. “It’s terrible. Our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly challenging time.”
“We are working tirelessly to gather all available information and evidence to determine the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.”
