A 10-hour-long standoff in California ended early Friday morning with the suspect and a 5-year-old child dead in an apparent murder-suicide.
The Long Beach Police Department said they were called to the home just after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday for a “domestic dispute.” When officers arrived, they saw smoke and fire coming from the home and called firefighters.

Once the fire was extinguished, a SWAT team established a perimeter and began trying to contact the suspect, believed to be barricaded inside. Nearby neighbors were evacuated as a precaution.
At around midnight, officers obtained a search warrant and entered the building, where they found the adult male suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and the child. They did not say how the child died, but they said they were investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.
Police also have not described the “domestic dispute” that prompted the call or the relationship between the man and the murdered child..
