EL MIRAGE, Calif. (TCD) — Homicide detectives in San Bernardino County are investigating after six people were found dead in a desolate region of the desert this week.
On Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 8:16 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to conduct a welfare check on Lessing Avenue and Shadow Mountain Road. When they arrived, they found multiple people deceased.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Mara Rodriguez said in a press conference Wednesday, Jan. 24, that the California Highway Patrol’s Aviation Division accompanied deputies to the call due to the fact that it was such a “remote desert area.”
Investigators initially found five victims, but they located a sixth Wednesday morning.
Detectives from the Specialized Investigations Division were brought on the scene to lead the case.
The sheriff’s department has not been able to confirm the sex or age of any of the victims, and Rodriguez did not say whether causes of death had been determined.
