Police in Louisville, Kentucky, are looking for the two men who allegedly left behind eight dogs when they moved out of a home, causing the poor pups to become so desperate they began to eat the drywall.
John Amato and William Grieshaber both have arrest warrants for second-degree animal cruelty. The Louisville Metro Police Department received a call last summer for a complaint of several dogs being mistreated in the 4400 block of Possibility Way.
“Upon arriving at the house, the distinct odor of feces and urine was so powerful, we could smell it from the street,” police said in a Facebook post.
The dogs were all covered in feces and emaciated. Cops say the apartment floors and beds were also covered in urine and feces. The scene was among the worst animal cruelty case the agency has seen, it said.
An investigation determined Amato and Grieshaber moved out of the home, but left behind the dogs. Animal cruelty detectives worked with Louisville Metro Animal Services to obtain the animal cruelty arrest warrants. The police department released photos of the dogs and the home, but first gave a “trigger warning” saying the images were disturbing. All eight dogs were nursed back to health by animal services. Seven of the dogs have been adopted, cops said.
“Meet ‘Sadie’. This is the last remaining pup that needs a home. ‘An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.’ Contact Louisville Metro Animal Services if you want to give this pup a furever home! animal ID: A748650,” the agency said.
