
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (TCN) —Â An 85-year-old man is in custody after hitting a 91-year-old pedestrian in a grocery store parking lot.
In the late afternoon on Nov. 7, Darrell Briggs fled the scene after hitting a woman with his car, WFLA reports.Â
Mary Broughton, 91, was taken to an area hospital, but later died of her injuries.
Police were able to locate Briggs at his apartment later that same day. He was arrested and booked into the Pinellas County Jail on the charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
He admitted to police in an interview that he knew he had hit something, but decided to keep driving, WFLA reports.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, the investigation is still ongoing.
