SPRING HILL, Fla. (TCN) — Authorities recently arrested a 32-year-old teacher on suspicion of driving while under the influence and crashing into a school fence.
On Aug. 12, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office responded to the campus of Explorer K-8 to a report of a vehicle collision involving a teacher at the school. A school resource deputy learned Philip Scire allegedly drove his car into the parking lot fence.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy reportedly noticed Scire was unconscious and sitting behind the wheel with the vehicle still in gear. There were allegedly multiple empty single-serving alcohol containers within the teacher’s reach.
Scire was transported to a hospital via ambulance. A traffic unit deputy who went to speak with the teacher noticed he “smelled of alcohol.” The deputy reportedly tried to get Scire to consent to a blood draw, but he refused to provide a sample.
Scire was cleared by the hospital and charged with one count of driving under the influence. He had previously been arrested in 2014 for a DUI charge out of Broward County.
Scire was booked into the Hernando County Detention Center on $1,000 bond.
