The bodies of a missing California mother and her daughter have been found underwater in a San Joaquin County canal.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Whisper Owen, 36, and 8-month-old Sandra McCarty were last seen driving from Fresno on July 15. Fresno County police believe they were traveling home in Elk Grove, but never arrived.
People Magazine reports that the Fresno Police Department confirmed on August 17 that they found a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer submerged in San Joaquin County, off Highway 120.
“We have been in contact today with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department regarding a search of a waterway in the area of Highway 120 and Victory Road in San Joaquin County,” police said.
“The sheriff’s department has confirmed that missing person – Whisper Owen’s vehicle, a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer, has been located inside the waterway near this location.
“San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department also confirmed that two bodies were located inside the Trailblazer. Confirmation of the identity of the two decedents will be released by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department and the Coroner’s Office within their jurisdiction, as they are conducting the investigation of the recovery of the two decedents and Whisper’s vehicle.”
Police were alerted to the vehicle after search and recovery dive team, Adventures with a Purpose, “used sonar to pinpoint” the vehicle’s location, FOX 40 reports.
Owen’s mother told ABC 30 that Owen took her daughter to a doctor’s appointment and visited family. They were supposed to then head home to her partner and two other children.
