A woman picking her mother up from work was killed after she was caught up in a road rage incident that had nothing to do with her, Arizona authorities say.

Yarely Ashley Hermosillo, 27, was in the passenger seat of her boyfriend”s car when they went to pick up her mom from work on Saturday. Her 4-year-old son also was in the car. They were at a red light around 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of W. Camelback Road and N. 51st Avenue in Glendale, a city some nine miles northwest of Phoenix, when a gunshot suddenly rang out, sending a bullet through the front windshield and striking Hermosillo in the face, according to police.

Hermosillo’s boyfriend sped to the nearest hospital, but she did not survive her injuries.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, detectives later learned the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Jesus Preciado Dousten, had been involved in a road rage incident with another driver.

The other driver told cops he was going down the road when a pickup truck pulled out in front of him, causing him to slam on his brakes, police wrote. He honked his horn and drove around the pickup and came to a stop at a light in the far right lane. The truck, occupied solely by Dousten, pulled up next to him in the center lane, police said. The driver yelled at Dousten to “watch where he was going.” Dousten allegedly pulled out a gun and said “you want some of this” in Spanish.

That’s when Dousten fired in a “random direction” out of his driver’s side window, according to the complaint. The shot hit Hermosillo’s car, which was to Dousten’s left. Witnesses said that Dousten appeared to be drunk, the affidavit noted.

Detectives identified Dousten’s vehicle through street cameras and arrested Dousten on Sunday. He admitted to driving the pickup but requested an attorney before detailing the alleged road rage incident. Cops recovered the alleged murder weapon at the home of a friend of Dousten’s. The friend told cops that Dousten came to his home on Saturday night and “appeared upset,” the affidavit said. Dousten allegedly admitted to his friend to being in a road rage incident and shooting in the opposite direction of the man he was beefing with, and that the shot hit a person in another car.

Dousten stands accused of second-degree murder and aggravated assault, among other charges. The suspect also was involved in another road rage incident about two months ago in which he punched another driver in the face, cops said.

“We really wanted to bring this family justice and we were so pleased we were able to get this guy off the street,” Glendale police spokesman Jose Santiago told local ABC affiliate KXNV.

Hermosillo had some 100,000 followers on her food- and recipe-focused TikTok page. Her family started a GoFundMe account to raise funds for her funeral.

“Yarely was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a beautiful soul whose light touched everyone who knew her,” the page reads. “She leaves behind her husband and their 4-year-old son, who now face an unimaginable loss. Yarely’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, and she poured her heart into caring for her little boy.”
