A 22-year-old Massachusetts man will be charged with the murder of his missing and pregnant girlfriend after her body was found on his property in Rehoboth.
Police say Gregory Groom assaulted 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro on August 6 then reported her missing the next day, according to WCVB.
Monteiro, who was 12 weeks pregnant and living in a shelter for pregnant and homeless women, had gone to Groom’s home to collect her belongings, as CrimeOnline reported. Family and friends said she indicated she didn’t feel safe and then stopped responding.
Police said a tip brought them back to Groom’s property on Tuesday, when they brought in a backhoe and began digging.
“She was so loving and so caring, and I love her so much. My daughter was her best friend,” said family friend Kira Schofield.
“Knowing that I lost my sister, and I will never see her again or say anything to her or get the chance to say goodbye or tell her that I love her,” said the victim’s sister, Faith Monteiro.
So far, Groom has been charged with aggravated assault and battery, domestic assault and battery, and witness intimidation. He is being held without bond and is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III said that Groom will be charge with Monteiro’s murder, according to WBSM.
