In the trailer for the new season, which you can check out above, Whitney Rose asks Mary how Robert is doing after returning from a rehabilitation facility. “He’s doing as well as he can be doing,” Mary responds. “Like, some days he’s good, some days he’s not.”

“You know, it’s his journey,” she tearfully adds in a confessional interview. “And I know God will work it out.”

Both Mary and Robert Jr.’s journeys were also teased in the official announcement for RHOSLC Season 6: “After a years-long renovation at her church, Mary Cosby returns to her place of worship and invites the women to her service, followed by celebrations over a bottle of champagne at Valter’s. At home, Mary remains committed to supporting her son Robert Jr.’s sobriety and navigates life after the passing of her estranged mother. Mary and Angie Katsanevas’ friendship is tested more than ever before when some of Angie’s tendencies rub Mary the wrong way.”

What Mary Cosby’s son Robert Jr. revealed about his struggles on RHOSLC Season 5

Viewers may recall that Robert Jr. and Mary shared a heartwarming and emotional conversation about his sobriety struggles and mental health on RHOSLC Season 5, Episode 11.

“You know, it wasn’t planned,” she said about the moment at the Season 5 reunion. “We just came together, Robert and I, and I said, ‘We’re gonna do this because we’re gonna help somebody.'”

Mary added that she was ultimately surprised by her son’s openness during their moving conversation. “I didn’t expect him to say all of that,” she shared. “I didn’t know that he was doing all of that, and the fact that I was unaware scared me because, you know, he lives in my house. We’re so close.”

On RHOSLC Season 5, Episode 14, viewers saw Mary prepare to drop Robert Jr. off at a 30-day rehab program.

“He wanted to go,” Mary later said at the reunion. “The way he was telling me and opening up to me, that was a cry [for] help. That was saying, ‘Mom, help me. I’m drowning.'”

Mary updated Andy Cohen and fans about Robert’s life after rehab during a December 2024 Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen appearance.

“I am so proud of him. So proud of him,” Mary said. “He did go to rehab. He stayed for a month. He completed it. He did an excellent job. He came out a new person. He did. He came out a new person.”

Mary further described how her son has changed since his stay during The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City After Show.

“I let him learn through his mistakes,” she said. “I feel like he needs time, he needs to simmer. Like, today, [while] I was getting dressed, he’s like, ‘Mom, I need to get a job.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, go get a job. Just so you can get out of the house every day and go do something. Keep yourself busy. ‘Cause when you’re just sitting around all you think about is old ways.'”
