CULPEPER, Va. (TCN) — Officials recently arrested a man on suspicion of fatally stabbing the mother of his missing baby in 1998.
Virginia State Police said that on July 27, 1998, a friend discovered 20-year-old Sylena Jo Dalton stabbed to death in her apartment. Authorities noted that her 10-week-old daughter, Allyson Dalton, was missing and has never been found.
Despite investigators’ efforts, the case remained cold. On Sept. 28, state police announced the arrest of a suspect, 56-year-old Daniel Pompell. He is reportedly the father of Allyson Dalton.
Authorities arrested Pompell, and he was charged with one count of murder.
In a statement, Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations Culpeper Field Office Captain John Defilippi said, “We are pleased to be able to bring this case to this point and bring some overdue closure to the family of Sylena Jo Dalton.”
Shenandoah County Commonwealth’s Attorney Elizabeth Cooper added, “Virginia State Police have tirelessly pursued justice for the death of Sylena Jo Dalton. My office is prepared to continue in this effort and ensure justice is served on behalf of the victim and her family.”
