See Meredith Marks’ Statement on Lisa Barlow’s Lawsuits: EXCLUSIVE

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City‘s Meredith Marks may not officially be on Lisa Barlow’s legal team, but she’s defending her friend in the court of public opinion, nonetheless.

After Lisa used poster-sized boards to exhibit to her castmates that the multiple lawsuits against her had allegedly either been “dismissed” or in the process of dismissal on Season 6, Episode 3, Meredith used her law degree to break down the whole situation exclusively for The Daily Dish.

First, Meredith echoed Lisa’s comments about how “allegations are not facts,” clarifying that she is not facing any “criminal charges.” 

“I mean, look, we’re talking about a civil lawsuit, and anybody can file that,” Meredith pointed out. “So, it doesn’t really carry very much weight, in my view. … [These are] private individuals bringing these suits.”

At least one of the legal cases stems from an alleged business loan, and according to Meredith, “Borrowing money is part of doing business. It’s not an abnormal thing. Clearly, there was a disagreement over it. And, you know, people can file whatever they want to file.”

Meanwhile, Meredith admitted that she doesn’t know where the lawsuits against Lisa stand today, reasoning that, as a friend, she’s “not sitting there and digging this stuff up.” However, she acknowledged that there is always a chance the court’s ruling might not favor Lisa.

“Now, if she loses, which I don’t foresee happening, from what I’ve been told, that’s a different story,” Meredith concluded. “Then, you can delve in and say, ‘Oh, she did this wrong, she did that wrong.’ But these are accusations. The same way that these women make false accusations against me, left, right, and center. People can do that in court too.”

At Lisa’s “clarity” lunch on RHOSLC‘s Sept. 30 episode, she remarked how she thought, “as a lawyer,” Meredith “would appreciate” her evidence boards.

“In my expert legal opinion, I don’t think that these posters are what you would normally use as exhibits in the courtroom,” Meredith opined in a confessional. “However, they get the point across.”

Later, she got more directly involved in the arguments, defending Lisa amid a heated back and forth with Whitney Rose. After Meredith entered the chat to highlight that there were “a lot of accusations” about Whitney out there too, the latter fired back, “Now you pipe in? You were silent camping.”

Whitney was referring to the cast’s RV trip, during which the women (led by Bronwyn Newport) discussed Lisa’s legal battles, despite her work-related absence.

“I was not silent,” Meredith insisted, as a clip from the camping getaway reminded viewers that she suggested to her castmates that they “deal with it with Lisa” and didn’t “need to do this behind her back.”

At Lisa’s lunch, Britani Bateman similarly expressed surprise that “Meredith didn’t speak up more” for Lisa and was “mostly silent,” while Mary Cosby confirmed, “You did not speak up for your friend.” 

Meredith, for her part, maintained that she did defend Lisa, though, accusing the others of lying about what really happened.

“They’re just looking to create a problem,” Meredith assured Lisa. “Just ignore them. They know I spoke up.”

Lisa’s response? “I believe you.”

Throughout the third episode of RHOSLC Season 6, Lisa defended herself plenty, too, making several of the same points Meredith did.

“No one in this group understands that when you’re running big business and you do really cool things, at some point, you’re going to get sued,” Lisa explained to a producer. “It’s not something I’m afraid of. It’s not something I’m worried about. We are lawyered up. We have more than six. We have a lawyer for everything. We cross our T’s with lawyers, we dot our I’s with lawyers. I’m still fabulous and I’m fine.”

Ultimately, she wrote off the lawsuits as “fanciful tales,” denying all the claims against her.

“This is litigation by Lisa Barlow,” she continued. “People can sue you for anything. … You can allege anything. So, I figured, like, I’m gonna have a little lunch and we’re gonna talk about the allegations versus facts.” 

After claiming to the group that a judge had already dismissed all of the cases, she admitted, however, “I’m in a lawsuit right now that has absolutely no merit to it.”
