Connecticut Woman Charged With Spiking Estranged Husband’s Wine With Antifreeze Chemical – Crime Online

A Connecticut woman has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly spiked her estranged husband’s drinks with ethylene glycol, the chemical used in antifreeze.

Kristen Emily Hogan has also been charged with resisting arrest, Connecticut State Police said.

The victim fell ill on August 10 after drinking from a bottle of wine he had in the refrigerator. He told investigators he believes Hogan accessed the bottle on August 7 when he got an alert on his phone that she was uploaded data through his WiFi router, an affidavit reads.

Hogan, he said, has “full unrestricted access to the home” as they go through divorce proceedings. On that day, they were supposed to be in court, but she didn’t show up.

The victim said he drank “a small amount” of the wine on August 10, then woke up “multiple times and became increasingly ill.” When he ultimately woke up vomiting, he call his mother, who came over and found him “slurring his words, staggering, and vomiting.”

She rushed him to the hospital, where doctors initially thought he was having a stroke but soon determined “he was exhibiting signs of an ethylene glycol poisoning.” Doctors put him on dialysis to clear the chemical from his system.

Hogan denied any wrongdoing when initially confronted by police, but they found searches for “potassium cyanide, potassium ferrycide, citrate-cyanide, potassium thiocyanate, and monoethylene glycol” on her cell phone,” along with searches for how the chemicals “would kill you.”

Then, she admitted buying a bottle of monoethylene glycol in late July but said she was using it to clean the carpet at her mother’s house.

Later, she admitted putting the poison in her husband’s wine, which ultimately tested positive for the chemical, as did a bottle of iced tea.

“Hogan stated it was only the wine and the iced tea, and nobody else knew she was tampering with [the victim’s] drinks,” the arrest affidavit said.

The victim surmised that Hogan’s motive was “the fact that Hogan would become the full owner of the residence and would gain full time custody of their child,” the affidavit said.

She told detectives she didn’t intend to kill him, just make him sick as “payback for him being mentally abusive.”

Hogan is being held on a $1 million bond.
