Riley Burruss has learned the “value in a dollar” since her mom, Kandi Burruss, threatened to cut her off. Although the Next Gen NYC cast member once spent more than $14,000 on bottle service at the club, she recently admitted that she’s learned her lesson.
Both Riley and Kandi appeared on Sherri on Oct. 1, where they addressed that moment at the club, which was mentioned on Next Gen NYC Season 1, Episode 5. During the episode, Riley and her friend, Ariana Biermann, recounted an expensive night out where they spent thousands of dollars on bottle service. “It better not be on the card I pay for,” Kandi told Riley. “Oh man, you’ve got too much money to burn. You really need to figure out your finances, honey.”
But now, Riley is singing a different tune. “I know there is value in a dollar,” Riley admitted.
Kandi chimed in during the episode, noting that Riley, who just turned 23 years old in August, still has a lot to learn. “She’s still learning, child, because the way her bank account is, right now, she just ran through it,” Kandi said.
Is Riley Burruss still planning on going to law school?
Yes, she is. Riley opened up about her future plans, which involve higher education, during her time on the show. “I’m taking the GRE because I’m supposed to be doing a dual degree program,” she said. “So, it’s a different test, but I’m going to get my law degree.”
She admitted that she has to give her mom credit for this. “I’m very grateful. She taught me well,” she added.

In addition to wanting to attend law school, Riley also co-hosts a podcast, The Burruss Banter, alongside Kandi. This is a very new venture for both of them, as the first episode of the podcast premiered on Friday, Oct. 3.

“We interview other families. Mothers, daughters, two members of other families, so we can have, like, this [conversation],” Kandi explained. “It’s a totally different podcast than you’ve ever heard anywhere else. Because, you know, we relate, right? And so, some of our guests are super funny, and some of the stories we talk about and share is just crazy.”

Both Riley and Kandi are so happy to be working closely on their new podcast together. Riley told host, Sherri Shepherd, that she admires her mom so much. “Of course, when I was younger, I was like, ‘Oh lord, I want the mom.’ You know?” she asked. “But now we have so much fun together and now we’re like, each other’s best friends.”

Kandi revealed that she is just as proud of her daughter. “Now that she’s grown up it’s like, ‘Wow, I birthed her. I made her.'”

In a recent interview with People, Kandi applauded her daughter’s journey as she steps out on her own. “She applied and graduated from [NYU] without any real help from us, did everything herself, and now she is doing what she said she’d do. She graduated in four years and has her own TV show, and it’s a hit,” she told the publication, adding, “She’s growing in her own light and shining.”
