Lala Kent shared a surprising update about where she and fellow Vanderpump Rules alum Katie Maloney stand.
It’s been a year and a half since the Season 11 reunion filmed in Los Angeles, marking the last time the former besties spoke, Katie revealed in July of 2024. But, according to Lala on her Untraditionally Lala podcast, she did reach out to the Something About Her co-founder. That’s what she told close friend and Katie’s ex-husband, Tom Schwartz, in the Oct. 8 episode of her podcast.
Lala said she reached out “after many months or a year-plus” but felt bad about talking about it on her podcast for fears that Katie would think “there was a reason” behind her motives. Citing her years of sober living, “Just with the changes that I’ve wanted to make in my life and take ownership, I felt it was necessary that she knew that I was sorry for the way things went down. And I didn’t expect a text back.”
Lala discussed working with her sponsor about making amends, a major part of Lala’s 12-step recovery, and said she had to get to a place where she could be OK with Katie not being receptive to an apology: “Because, if you’re going in looking for that, then you haven’t fully taken accountability for your part, and you’re looking for something selfishly to make you feel like your actions were okay.”
What happened to Lala Kent and Katie Maloney’s friendship?
Following a dramatic Season 11, Lala and Katie had a big-time falling out at the reunion. During the three-part event, Lala accused Katie of acting oppositely on the show in her friendships in comparision to what she was saying off camera. As Lala explained on the Vanderpump Rules After Show in May 2024, “I think we were at odds because from my point of view, she was not very honest this season, and I don’t recognize that Katie.”

A couple of months after the reunion, Katie sat for the July 2, 2024, episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, admitting she “didn’t see that coming,” when it came to Lala’s accusations. Katie said their rift had actually started about six months earlier, but she believed they worked things out during the cast’s choppy San Francisco boat ride. Katie said the two “had a moment” that went on “much longer” than what was seen.

In her July 2024 interview, Katie wondered if things could ever get back to where they were. “I think her and I, and our lives are in slightly different places, and sometimes it just means you’re not meeting on the same page,” said Katie. “And, I don’t know, I just, I felt like, obviously she had been harboring certain feelings, and thinking certain things that I didn’t know that she had felt, and so she was saving them for the reunion, which I didn’t feel like was super authentic.”

Lala Kent wants Katie Maloney to be happy
In December 2024, it was Lala’s turn to address the feud on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, though at the time, the Give Them Lala founder expressed less interest in repairing the friendship. According to Us Weekly, she said she didn’t appreciate being painted “as someone who pockets information and brings it out at a convenient time, because that’s not what happened.”
Still, Lala wanted the best for her former friend. “We can go over this all the livelong day; it doesn’t matter. What’s done is done,” Lala said. “We may be able to rebuild at some point, or we may never see each other again. Who the f–k knows, right? But I do want her to be happy in her life. She deserves that.”
