ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (TCN) — Authorities recently arrested a 60-year-old woman on suspicion of killing her 64-year-old husband with a billy club.
On the night of Oct. 8, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Birch Drive, where they located William Tietgens deceased.
According to the sheriff’s office, earlier that evening, Bonnie Tietgens reportedly tried to contact her adult son on the phone. The son reportedly returned the call, and Tietgens said, “Dad was dead” and that she hit him with a billy club. The son and his sister went to the residence before finding their dad with apparent head trauma and calling 911.
Deputies located Tietgens in the garage near a washing machine with a blood-covered blanket beside her, and the machine was filled with bloody clothes and towels. As authorities took her into custody, Tietgens allegedly pressed the start cycle on the washing machine in an attempt to destroy potential evidence.
Tietgens was arrested and faces charges of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
Sheriff Richard Del Toro stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victim during this tragic time. We are committed to ensuring justice is served and will continue to support the victim’s loved ones through this investigation.”
