A 43-year-old school occupational therapist has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly attempting to poison her ex-husband.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Cheryl Harris Gates had been charged with attempted murder, contaminating food or drink, stalking, and damage to property. They provided no further information, but court documents revealed more details.
According to WSOC, Gates dosed her ex-husband’s energy drink with prescription drugs on July 8. A reporter spoke with the ex-husband, who said that he took a sip and found the drink tasted funny.
Gates’ attorney told the station he is still working on getting up to speed on the case and urged an open mind.
According to WCNC, Gates is a pediatric occupational therapist who works with students on sensory processing challenges, handwriting difficulties, and executive function disorders.
Police said the incident did not take place on a school campus and did not involve students or other staff.
