As “ridiculous headlines” claiming that Bronwyn had been involved in “identity theft” and “fraud” suddenly began circulating online — and among her castmates — during Season 6, Episode 6, she met up with Todd to break down how she should proceed.

For starters, Todd advised her against joining the other ladies on their upcoming cast yachting trip with the Below Deck Down Under crew. That was at least partly because they both suspected that Lisa Barlow was behind the sudden media reports.

“It’s unclear to me why you wanna go spend time with these people, why you wanna spend time with Lisa, why you wanna fly 18 hours to be in the same room with someone that continually lies about you, lies about me, lied about Gwen,” Todd explained, referring to Bronwyn’s 19-year-old daughter. “I struggle to understand why you’d do that.”

When Bronwyn asked what exactly he was “worried about,” Todd, again, cited fallout from her ongoing drama with Lisa.

“A tiger can’t change its stripes. She’s not gonna change,” he elaborated. “What I said to you a year ago: I don’t know why you get in the gutter with her — because that’s what it is. You just get down in the gutter and muck around with slime.”

As Todd concluded, “If you decide to go, I got it; you’re a big girl, grown woman, I understand. But don’t come home complaining that you and Lisa got into a fight, because I assume it’s gonna happen. You’re setting yourself up for that. It’s on you.”

Why Bronwyn Newport and Todd were worried about the legal allegations

Elsewhere in their discussion on RHOSLC‘s Oct. 21 episode, Todd pointed out to Bronwyn, “You know this lying b—t online in the press affects all of us, personally and professionally.”

Acknowledging the validity of his worry, Bronwyn responded, referencing Todd’s job as a software and tech executive: “I know this is gonna cause a problem for you at work,” she said. “So, I’m sorry about that ’cause I know it’s gotta be a concern for you.”

After Todd replied, “Of course it is,” Bronwyn continued, “I know that my name next to any of these words reflects poorly on you, and you need to be seen as someone who is trustworthy and beyond reproach.”

Was Bronwyn Newport really accused of identity theft?

As for whether or not the allegations about her past legal issues were even true, Bronwyn explained that the media reports referenced “two separate things” from her past that happened about a decade apart.

“There are mistakes I made in college — we’re talking 20 years ago. I think I had an eviction notice after I left BYU and I had to pay it later,” she explained. “And then they’re saying that I allegedly committed crimes, current day, in the last year or so. Identity theft, grand theft, fraud, all of those are things listed under that penal code. What actually happened was almost 10 years ago, nothing recent. But it’s been a case that was dismissed and then later sealed, and I really, legally, can’t talk about what my involvement is in that.”

As she combats the latest rumors about her on RHOSLC, find out what Bronwyn recently revealed about Todd’s emotional affair.
