A Mississippi woman who was arrested in connection with the drowning of her two young sons may face additional charges.

Amber Goldman, 36, was arrested by officers from the Gautier Police Department on Monday after an investigation into the drowning deaths of her sons, who were 2 and 5 years old. According to a press release from the Gautier Police Department, officers responded to Goldman’s home at 5:30 p.m. on Monday after receiving a call about two unresponsive children.

The brothers were found on the ground near a swimming pool at the home on 3 Oaks Drive in Gautier. First responders provided lifesaving efforts before the boys were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Local ABC and CBS affiliate WLOX reported that Jackson County Deputy Coroner James Prisock confirmed that the boys’ cause of death was drowning. Details about the circumstances under which the boys drowned were not made public.

Gautier police said that Goldman was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia. Specific details about what substance Goldman was allegedly in possession of were not made available. Law&Crime reached out to a detective at the Gautier Police Department for further information but did not immediately hear back.

Police said that additional charges against Goldman were pending as the investigation into her sons’ deaths continues.

Gautier Police Chief David Bever said in the press release, “This is an unimaginable tragedy that has deeply affected our community. Our hearts are with the family, friends, and first responders impacted by this heartbreaking loss. We ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as investigators continue to seek answers.”
