A Maine man who shot and killed his parents, their family dog, and another couple was found dead Tuesday in his prison cell in Massachusetts where he was serving a life sentence for the murders.
After killing Cynthia and David Eaton, 62 and 66, and their friends, 62-year-old Patti and 72-year-old Bob Eger, on April 18, 2023, Joseph Eaton drove down Interstate 295, randomly firing at cars. A brother and a sister traveling in one of those cars was hit by bullets but survived, WGME reported.
As CrimeOnline reported, the murders took place just days after Eaton had been from prison after serving a term for a probation violation. Because of his criminal past, he should not have had a gun, officials said at the time.
Records showed he had been charged with more than a half dozen crimes over the last decade, including assault and aggravated assault. He has served time in Kansas, Florida, and Maine.
No further information was released about Eaton’s death, which is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police.
