When Wendy Osefo traded lives with Alethea Shapiro on Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition, she was shocked to realize a key difference in their lifestyles: pets. As such, she was immediately reminded of The Real Housewives of Potomac’s Monique Samuels and her infamous African grey parrot named T’Challa.
“I thought T’Challa was bad — baby, the animals they had me with? Oh no,” Wendy said with a laugh during an exclusive Sept. 30 interview with The Daily Dish.
ICYMI, Wendy was tasked with caring for multiple animals during her stay in the Shapiro home, including two ferrets named Breck and Bobo; a chinchilla named Adam; five cats; a dog; and ducks.
Now, in spite of her rocky first encounter with T’Challa on RHOP Season 5, it’s safe to say that she much prefers pet parrots to pet ferrets. As she joked to The Daily Dish, “I love T’Challa. Bring T’Challa back from the dead, honey.”
The choice is a surprising one due to Wendy’s unforgettable first interaction with T’Challa as the ‘Wives visited Monique’s lake house for a girls trip on RHOP Season 5. At the time, she was mid-sentence when T’Challa flew at her head while flapping his wings. Naturally, she screamed and flailed her arms before Monique ran into the room and yelled, “Y’all scared my baby!”
“My soul like jumped out of my body like, ‘Oh my god!’ Jesus, it was bad,” Wendy told E! News back in Sept. 2020.
Thankfully, though, she eventually found it in her heart to forgive T’Challa for his attack. “Me and T’Challa have actually gotten closer. T’Challa actually followed me on Instagram,” Wendy added at the time. “I’m still suffering from a little bit of PTSD, so I have not followed T’Challa back.” But, she added, she was “open to mending the relationship.”
Sadly, Monique shared in July 2021 that T’Challa was “killed in a freak accident,” according to PEOPLE.

Although Wendy has two dogs herself, she shared on Wife Swap: Real Housewives Edition that other “pets” are a different story.
For starters, Alethea called ferrets “amazing pets” during the Nov. 9 episode, but added, “The only bad thing is they’re a little stinky.”
Wendy found this out for herself first hand when she followed Alethea’s “house rule” that she must “clean ferret droppings.” As she helped 19-year-old Hailey, Wendy screamed when the ferrets appeared, and Hailey had to offer to “hold them back” during the cleaning. Wendy was also forced to engage with Breck the ferret when she followed one of her new rules: “Engage in the kids’ hobbies…even if you hate it.”
As Wendy held Breck with 12-year-old Shane, she admitted she only did it for one reason. “I will always remember Shane for making me hold a ferret. And the only reason I held it was for him,” she explained.
