The FBI is currently investigating the untimely death of a Florida high school senior found dead aboard a Carnival cruise ship
According to ABC News, Anna Kepner died Saturday while aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship. The vessel had embarked on a trip from Miami to the Caribbean, when she passed away on the last day of the cruise.
The FBI Miami is currently leading the investigation and her cause of death has not been released.
“Our focus is on supporting the family of our guest and cooperating with the FBI,” Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement.
Kepner’s family described her as a straight-A “bubbly” student who enjoyed “being around people,” and volunteered in her grandparents’ 55+ neighborhood in Titusville.
“She had that type of energy that just drew you in with her smile and the way she carried herself. She was such an easy person to talk to,” her family said in a statement.
She also loved being near the water and earned her scuba certification and boater’s license.
Kepner had plans to join the military after finishing her senior year in high school.
“She was already talking to recruiters and had chosen her career path. She wanted to do something that would help her community,” the family said.
“She was the best child you could ever meet. We’ll always remember her for who she was.”
Authorities are currently interviewing passengers aboard the cruise and reviewing video footage.
“Because this is an ongoing matter, no further information is available at this time,” FBI Miami Special Agent Willie Creech told People Magazine.
