SANIBEL, Fla. (TCN) —Â A man allegedly stole a car, nearly ran over its owner, and then hid from police in a porta potty before emerging half-naked, brandishing two wooden stakes.Â
Joshua Mulnix, 43, was arrested Oct. 27 and taken into custody at the Lee County Jail. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, grand theft auto, criminal mischief, and leaving the scene of a crash, WKRC reports.
Mulnix allegedly entered a property in Sanibel and tried to break into a shed, Gulf Coast News reports. When a construction worker told him to leave, Mulnix reportedly got into that worker’s car and began to drive away, nearly hitting the worker in the process.Â
WKRC reports the person jumped out of the way to avoid being hit, citing an arrest affidavit obtained by Law & Crime, and then watched as Mulnix left via a gate on the property, allegedly causing about $4,000 in property damage on the way. Meanwhile, a second person called 911 to report a man who matched Mulnix’s description and appeared to be on drugs.Â
Mulnix allegedly parked the stolen vehicle at another property and ran into a porta potty to hide, Law & Crime reports. When the police arrived, Mulnix allegedly emerged pantless from the porta potty and fled on foot while brandishing two wooden stakes, according to a deputy who had arrived at the scene. Mulnix was subdued by another officer with a Taser, arrested, and taken into custody.
Law & Crime reports that Mulnix posted bail Nov. 4. His arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 8.
