The father of a Florida teen who died aboard a Carnival Horizon cruise ship earlier this month says he has been kept in the dark about how she died.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, the vessel had embarked on a trip from Miami to the Caribbean, when 18-year-old Anna Kepner passed away on the last day of the cruise.
Kepner died November 7, at 11:17 a.m., according to the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner. The Cruise Globe reports that the vessel was in Cuba at the time, on the northwest coast.
“Everybody was questioned. Everybody came off that ship. I don’t know who they are looking at or what their investigation is,” her father, Christopher Kepner, told the DailyMail.
Kepner reportedly said he had been on the cruise with his daughter, along with his other children, stepchildren, and his wife.
The FBI Miami is currently leading the investigation and her cause of death has not been released.
“The FBI hasn’t shared anything with me yet. I would imagine they’re going to be in contact with me about it – but I know as little as everybody else,” he added.
Following her death, the ship detoured and stopped in at the Port of Miami Saturday.
Kepner’s family described her as a straight-A “bubbly” student who enjoyed “being around people,” and volunteered in her grandparents’ 55+ neighborhood in Titusville.
She also loved being near the water, earning her scuba certification and boater’s license.
Kepner had plans to join the military after finishing her senior year in high school.
Meanwhile, Christopher Kepner, who described his family as “private people,” said he has been trying to avoid rumors circulating on social media.
“I’ve had to shut the world out. I don’t watch the TV anymore. We’ve literally had to stop doing anything to do with the internet.”
Authorities reportedly interviewed passengers aboard the cruise and reviewed video footage, but have not released additional details.
