When Mary Cosby was able to once again step up to her pulpit after two years of renovations at her church, she knew she wanted The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 6 cast to be among her congregation, pointing out, “They could use some soul searching.” For most of the ‘Wives, Episode 10 was their first chance to see Mary as the First Lady at her church.
“I’m excited to see Mary in her element. I know her so well, but because the church was closed, I haven’t seen the most important part of her life,” Angie Katsanevas explained in the Nov. 18 episode.
Angie later reflected on Mary’s larger-than-life presence as the cast sat down for an exclusive Bravo HQ interview. “She shines. She was so beautiful up there. She was glowing.”
Whitney Rose shared the experience was “a side we don’t see from her very often.” She added, “She is just so powerful and magnificent.”
Mary became emotional as she stood in front of the congregation in the Nov. 18 episode, and ended up addressing each of the ‘Wives during her sermon. Bronwyn Newport appreciated Mary’s sound words and advice.
“There’s been a lot of worries in my life. About my parents, about how Todd [Bradley] and I continue to stay close together,” Bronwyn admitted. “I think I really needed to hear from Mary that I’m going to be okay no matter what. And I think there’s, like, peace on my horizons.”
Heather Gay believed the powerful moment showed how much Mary cared for each of the ‘Wives. “Getting a blessing from Mary M. Cosby, the First Lady of Faith Pentecostal, is an event,” she declared during the Bravo HQ interview. She later added, “To have her bless us each, individually, it was a moment.”
Heather Gay and Meredith Marks react to Mary Cosby’s church
Mary’s church reopening followed the RHOSLC cast’s chaotic crossover charter trip with the Below Deck Down Under Season 4 crew that culminated in an incident on the plane ride home between Meredith Marks and Britani Bateman. Mary hoped to repair some damaged relationships with the reopening of her church, and explained in the Nov. 18 episode, “I’ve just never seen a group of women act like little kids.”
Meredith admitted during her Bravo HQ interview that Mary’s words did make a difference. “I thought it was nice, because I was feeling not in a great place at that moment…so just feeling positive energy on that day was really nice,” she shared.

Heather pointed to a defining moment during the service as a possible breakthrough for the group of ‘Wives. “When Mary brought us all together, and put us in a circle, and made us pray, and made us hold each other’s hands—bury the hatchet—we’re still in this together. Even though there’s a huge divide in the group. And we’ll make it through.”
Mary revealed that was exactly her goal when she reopened her church. “My whole point is to help somebody,” she shared during her Bravo HQ interview. “If I could say one thing that would maybe change your whole way of thinking, and put you on a right path, I’ll do it.”
Mary Cosby shares why she wanted to reopen her church
Mary first gave fans a look inside her church, Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, back on RHOSLC Season 1. It was founded by her grandmother, Dr. Rosemary Redmon Cosby, and the bishop is Mary’s husband, Robert Cosby Sr., with Mary serving as First Lady. Although the church was noticeably absent in recent seasons, Mary addressed why in the Nov. 18 episode.
“Our church has been in our family for sixty years, and this will be the first time we’ve renovated it,” Mary shared. “The renovations took over two years. So opening these doors is like opening a new home. And there is no place like home.”
Mary admitted she was anxious to get back up in front of her congregation.
“I never thought this day would be here. I’m extremely nervous,” she said. “This will be the first time in a few years that I actually have to get up and speak and say something to the congregation.”
Despite her apprehension, Mary hoped that her church reopening would have an impact on her son Robert Jr., who’s been on a recovery journey since rehab.
“We’re in the midst of Robert trying to find his destination. Or we’re trying to find wherever his journey goes,” Mary explained in the Nov. 18 episode. “So, opening these church doors will help Robert. And whoever else is in need.”

The mother and son took a private moment to chat in the renovated church ahead of its official reopening, and Mary inquired as to where Robert Jr. was “spiritually” at the moment.
“When I went to Malibu, they had these AA things, these meetings, about having like a higher power. I already knew who my higher power was,” Robert shared. “A lot of people are struggling with that. They’re powerless. They need a higher power. You need God.”
Mary agreed that a higher power was crucial to Robert Jr.’s recovery. “I feel like if you don’t have that higher help, you’re still going to be back in that same dark circle that you’re trying to come out of,” she told him.
But when the day of the official reopening arrived, Mary arrived at the church without her son. She confessed to her cousin that Robert was missing because he has “good days” and “not so good” days.
“I’m a lot disappointed that Robert’s not here,” Mary admitted in her confessional interview. “I’m crushed. But I know today is not his time and today is not for him. So, I just have to keep trusting and believing that his time will come. And when it does, he’ll be ready.”
Don’t miss the advice Mary says she’d give her RHOSLC Season 1 self in an exclusive interview with The Daily Dish.
