A New York woman is facing charges after police say she left her 2-year-old inside a hot car for hours.

According to the Middletown Times Herald-Record, 33-year-old Zenaida Soriano-Rincon is facing a second-degree manslaughter charge, along with recklessly causing a death. Police arrested her on November 17.

The incident happened on September 19 in Middletown, after police arrived at a health care facility to investigate a call regarding an unresponsive child. The victim was taken to the Garnet Health Medical Center, and subsequently passed away.

During a two-month investigation, detectives determined that Soriano-Rincon left the child in her vehicle for eight hours while she worked.

Soriano-Rincon remains behind bars at the Orange County jail on $250,000 cash bail, $500,000 bond or $1 million partially secured bond, according to the Herald-Record.

“This is the 30th hot car child death that has been confirmed as heat-related and Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke (PVH),” Jan Null, CCM, Adjunct Professor of Meteorology at San Jose State University, told CrimeOnline in an emailed statement.

The victim’s name has not yet been released by authorities. Check back for updates.
