An 8-year-old Florida child stabbed her estranged grandmother Monday, protecting her mother from an alleged attack.
At around 3:00 p.m. Monday, Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance call in the 600 block of Reese Avenue in the Oakleaf area, according to FOX 13 Tampa Bay.
During the 911 call, the caller could be heard yelling at someone to leave. The caller was determined to be the daughter of the suspect, Serpil Adams, 62.
A CCSO media release stated that during the investigation, authorities determined that the victim had been involved in a physical confrontation with Adams, after Adams allegedly entered the victim’s home through an unlocked door without an invitation.
The victim was inside the residence with her two young children when Adams gained entry. Adams then allegedly attacked her daughter with a serrated utility knife.
In an attempt to protect her mother, the victim’s 8-year-old daughter retrieved a kitchen knife. The child stabbed her grandmother in her upper arm, causing the suspect to retreat and flee the scene.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office later located Adams at her friend’s house, where she had been staying. Deputies arrested Adams at the residence without incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
The victim and her child were not injured during the attack.
Adams is being held on a bond set at $500,003.00 and charged with attempted 2nd-degree murder.
