Boston Rob Talks Football, Kate Chastain

Realities are colliding on Peacock this weekend! In a fun, first-of-its-kind NFL simulcast that puts a different spin on play-by-play sports commentary, Reality Hot Seat is serving up an intriguing new way to watch Sunday Night Football one that entrusts the sportscasting microphone to your favorite reality TV stars.

Hosted by E!’s Justin Sylvester (an alum of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), Reality Hot Seat will dare to put a roomful of reality TV veterans on sportscasting duty for this week’s SNF matchup between the Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs. The celebrity guest list includes Kate Chastain (Below Deck, The Traitors), Heather Gay (The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City), and Rob Mariano (Survivor, Deal or No Deal Island, The Traitors) — a guy known to fans by the oh-so-catchy nom de screen “Boston Rob.”

Before the simulcast’s big 8 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday, December 7, NBC Insider put Boston Rob through his rapid-fire Q&A paces in anticipation of Reality Hot Seat’s Peacock debut. What snacks are must-haves on NFL Sundays? Is reality TV all that different from actual sports? Heck, how does a sportscasting first-timer even get in the zone for a live-fire broadcast like Reality Hot Seat?

Reality Hot Seat on Peacock: Boston Rob breaks down his Sunday Night Football game plan

NBC Insider: How are you preparing for Reality Hot Seat? What’s your game plan?

Boston Rob: Just watching football every week like I always do! I’m excited to meet and interact with my cohosts. I know Kate, but I haven’t met Heather or Justin yet. It’s a good group! I think we all bring a little something different to the table, so it’ll be interesting to see how that works out.

NBC Insider:  What do you love about football so much?

Boston Rob: I really love the camaraderie; the tradition of getting together with friends or family on Sunday — eating, watching the game, rooting for your team… and talking smack to other friends that root for the [other] team!

NBC Insider: Eating, you say? What are your favorite snacks when you’re watching a football game?

Boston Rob: I am pretty traditional. Buffalo wings. Pizza. Beer!

NBC Insider: What kind of fan are you when you’re rooting on your favorite team? Are you superstitious? Super loud? What’s your rooting style?

Boston Rob: I’m from Boston — aka Title Town, aka City of Champions! I root for the New England Patriots. I’ve been through the Tom Brady era, and I’m here for the Drake Maye era. We have a history of winning. I know everyone else in the league loves to cut down whoever’s on top, but I’m used to it!

NBC Insider: Reality Hot Seat mixes reality TV stars with live sports. What makes football and reality TV so similar?

Boston Rob: I feel like there are a lot of different reality TV “teams.” There’s the competitive reality TV shows; there’s the Housewives [and] Bravo shows — and even though we don’t necessarily compete against each other, there’s competition within each show. But, we’re all part of the same league!
