Romantic sparks flew between Vanderpump Rules newcomer Shayne Davis and SUR bartender Natalie Maguire during the Season 12 premiere, and in Episode 3, they met up for a rock-climbing date. What started as a light and fun time got serious after Shayne detailed a horrifying incident from his past.
Shayne’s reveal came after Natalie shared that she had back surgery for scoliosis as a teenager. “I broke my back too, when I was like 19,” Shayne said in the Dec. 16 episode. “I got shot three times. One of the bullets like blew out my left lung.”
Natalie asked Shayne if he knew the gunman, to which he replied, “Yeah, it was my best friend. He shot me.”
Shayne shared the details with Natalie and producers. “I get this modeling contract. I tell all my buddies. I’m about to move. My best friend hits me up, and he’s like, ‘I need your help,’” he explained in an interview. The “help,” he revealed, involved “a fight with a group of guys.”
“[My friend] got stabbed. I tried to tackle the guy that stabbed him. At the same time, [my friend] just started shooting,” Shayne told Natalie.
“That fight ended up with me getting shot multiple times, and I was paralyzed,” Shayne said. “I learned how to walk in three months.”
Despite the life-changing event, Shayne managed to move forward with his dream job after fighting to heal himself. “I walked back in the modeling agency. And I said, ‘Hey, would you guys still take me?’ And they were like, ‘We would love to have you.’ And then Calvin Klein flew me out to Milan,” he said.
The scars on his body are now adorned with tattoos. “I decided to get BandAid tattoos over all the entry and exit wounds, because I don’t want to take life super serious,” he explained in a confessional. “I don’t want to look at life like I’m a victim.”
Still, he joked, he’s not above using the story to his advantage. “Using the gunshot wounds as a lure, I know she can’t help on a primal level but be a little bit turned on,” he quipped.

Who is Shayne Davis on Vanderpump Rules?
While Shayne doesn’t work at SUR according to his Bravo bio, he’s part of the group of Vanderpump Rules friends, mainly through his buddy Marcus Johnson. He is “laser-focused on his sobriety, but that doesn’t stop him from a night out on the town,” his bio reads.
Although he doesn’t work for Lisa Vanderpump, Shayne is part of the entertainment industry. “I’m a full-time actor,” he said during the Dec. 2 episode. “That’s how all the bills get paid, and that’s how the Lexus got bought with the Oreo interior.”
He also shared why he found a rock climbing date with Natalie to be appealing during the Dec. 16 episode. “I think rock climbing is the perfect date for meeting Natalie because she’s getting a sneak peek into my lifestyle. When I’m not modeling, I’m a personal trainer, so I’m a very, very active dude,” he explained.

Clarifying he’s single during the Dec. 16 episode, Shayne shared more about himself with producers. “My friends would probably describe me as a player with a heart of gold,” he said. “I’m honest, and I’m caring, and I’m passionate. If I feel nurtured and cared for, and I feel safe, that’s like crack to me.”
Shayne and Natalie met just before filming of Vanderpump Rules Season 12, and decided to explore a romantic path. “The fiery-ness to her, it’s very intriguing to me,” Shayne explained.
Natalie admitted she felt the same way about Shayne. “I feel a connection that’s just undeniable. We’re both cute. We’re both single. We’re both—I think—a little bit f—ked up,” she told producers.
She added, “I do like Shayne a lot, and I feel like this really could go somewhere. He literally is the epitome of my physical type. But I also don’t want to make the same mistake that I’ve made before of jumping into a relationship when I’ve only been single for a few months.”

Although the couple seemed to connect through sharing stories on their date, Shayne was later taken aback by Natalie’s actions during a pool party in the episode.
“Natalie told me not to be flirting with anybody at SUR. And now that’s what you’re doing. I’m confused by that,” he told producers. “Are you feeling this? And if you’re not feeling it, let’s just be friends. But either way, I’m a big communication guy. If something is casual, I still need clarity.”
When he confronted her, he told her, “I can feel your wall’s super high.” And when he asked for “clarity” about their situation, Natalie told him she didn’t want “to talk about it or overanalyze it.”
“Why can’t you just flirt with someone and see what happens?” she asked rhetorically during her confessional. “You’re like showing all your cards, and that’s what you’re calling communication. It’s making me like bored.”
She later added, “This might be the first time in Shayne’s life that a girl is not like throwing herself at him…But I’m not that easy. Sorry, Shayne.”
