A Mississippi couple has been arrested after “unidentified human remains” were found in the backyard of a missing woman’s home this week.
That woman, 81-year-old Carol Ryan, is the mother of 50-year-old John Ryan, who has been arrested along with his wife, 48-year-old Samantha Ryan.
Carol Ryan was reported missing on Monday by family, although they said she had not been heard from in several months. Jackson Police obtained a search warrant for her property and began to systematically search the house, the land, and “vehicles parked at the residence,” Jackson Police Chief Tyree Jones said.
On Tuesday evening, they announced they’d found human remains in a grave in the backyard. Jones said that John and Samantha Ryan were detained for questioning.
On Wednesday, the pair were charged with desecration of a human corpse. John Ryan was given a $100,000 bond, while his wife got a $75,000 bond, WLBT reported.
The coroner has not yet identified the remains found in Carol Ryan’s backyard, but they are believe to belong to the missing woman.
