Bronwyn Newport may not have heeded husband Todd Bradley’s warnings against traveling with her castmates on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City when she and the ladies jetted off to Greece, but she recognized his protective intentions, nonetheless.

Prior to her announcing their separation after nine years of marriage on Dec. 12, Bronwyn stopped by Bravo HQ and defended Todd’s opposition to her going on the RHOSLC Season 6 cast trips with some women who gossip behind her back.

“Todd’s always coming from a place of wanting what’s best for me and, honestly, wanting what’s best for himself too,” Bronwyn explained in her exclusive interview. “I think Todd doesn’t like to see me hurt, and he also doesn’t like to have to deal with it, because then I’m, like, crying to him on the phone. I’m like, ‘I wish I hadn’t said this.’ It’s, like, all these things he has to deal with.”

ICYMI: Prior to the ladies’ drama-filled charter with the Below Deck Down Under Season 4 crew, Todd correctly predicted that vacationing with Lisa Barlow, whom they suspected had leaked Bronwyn’s past legal issues, would not end well. Indeed, during the yachting adventure, Angie Katsanevas brought to light that Lisa had repeated rumors that Todd cheated, resulting in a blowout argument between them.

“At that time, Todd’s name was really heavily being used as an insult and a weapon against me,” Bronwyn further reasoned. “Todd really doesn’t want anything to do with that kind of behavior. And that’s not how he and his friends act, and it’s very foreign to him, and he wants it to stay foreign to him. He doesn’t wanna get used to that.”

Bronwyn reveals a major difference between her and Todd Bradley

Either way, Todd still held down the fort back home, while Bronwyn toured Greece with her fellow snowflake holders. As Bronwyn shared during Season 6, Episode 15, that included him flying to California to help her mom, Muzzy, complete a move from her family home of 40 years to Utah.

Though Bronwyn shouldered some guilt from being away during the final phase of her mom’s move, she saw the trip as an opportunity to make progress in some of her fractured friendships — even if Todd did not share her perspective.

During her Bravo HQ visit, she attributed them not quite seeing eye to eye to Todd being more of a black-and-white thinker.

“Todd and I are opposite in that when you meet Todd, you’re right in,” Bronwyn elaborated. “Todd loves everybody right away, and you work your way out. Whereas I’m the kind of person that has a really steep application process, and then when you’re in, it’s really hard to be out with me. So, I kept wanting to think the best of everybody in the friend group and that they weren’t doing something to me that was, you know, so devastating.”

She continued, “I think you see me really try to push my way forward with Heather [Gay] and find some way to be in the same room as Lisa. Whereas Todd was like, ‘It’s a chop. Just be done with both of them. Never speak to them again. Salt Lake’s a big place.’ Todd’s hardly ever in Salt Lake. He wouldn’t know it’s not that big of a place. I was gonna have to figure it out with them.”

Bronwyn Newport opens up about sharing her marriage’s ups and downs on RHOSLC

Between confronting Todd’s cheating accusations head on and even suggesting they try an open marriage, Bronwyn has laid it all bare throughout Season 6.

“It’s interesting because I am somebody who feels better when I talk about things,” she said in her interview, before pointing out how that tact also brought some hard-earned lessons.

“I’m learning once you say something, you can’t control what happens anymore,” Bronwyn remarked. “Everyone’s gonna have their own opinion; everyone’s gonna talk about it. They can bring it back up whenever they want. And that’s just not something I’ve experienced before in other groups of friends. So, I’m learning that, you know, thinking out loud is not always the right way to think.”

Regardless, Bronwyn said she balances being “very open” about her life with the fact that Todd and her 19-year-old daughter, Gwen, are “much more private” than she is.

“I’m always trying to straddle that line of being myself, while being respectful to the people I care about and love the most,” she added. “Todd doesn’t have any form of social media, so he is also a really interesting sounding board for me in that he doesn’t care — and also doesn’t know — what anybody thinks about him.”

Bronwyn concluded, “That’s been a good reminder to me that the things that I do and say, you know, I have to be able to sleep at night with them. Nobody else has to.”

As the RHOSLC Season 6 finale approaches, get details on where Bronwyn’s relationship with Todd stands now.
