N.J. man allegedly killed mother, grandparents with machete before being shot by police

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (TCN) — Police discovered three people dead inside a home after shooting a man holding a machete.

NBC New York reports that on Jan. 5, police responded to a 911 call saying there was someone inside a home with a knife. When they arrived, police saw the suspect on the porch with a machete.

He then fled, and after a brief chase on foot, he allegedly charged at the responding officers. They attempted to tase him, but he was unaffected, the outlet reports.

Officers reportedly ordered the man, identified by the New York Post as 29-year-old Jordan Barnes, to stop multiple times. When he did not, he was fatally shot.

WABC reports police then entered the home, where they found the bodies of three people, believed to be the mother and grandparents of the suspect. The New York Post identified them as Jeanmarie Barnes, 60, Richard A. Barnes, 86, and Brenda F. Barnes, 84.

According to the New York Post, Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler said Barnes’ father placed the 911 call.

WABC reports the deaths are being investigated by prosecutors and the state attorney general.
