Murder Charges Filed Against Homeowner Who Fatally Shot Armed Intruder – Crime Online

A Texas man has been charged with murder for shooting and killing an armed burglar who broke into his home last week.

Last Friday, Big Spring police responded to reports of shots fired at Joel Florez’s home. Responding officers located Florez, 43, and a 40-year-old woman outside Florez’s residence before Florez told them that the home intruder was wounded inside, according to KOSA.

The suspect, identified as Phillip Lozano, 36, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Florez allegedly admitted to shooting Lozano, who was armed when he forced entry into his home.

An investigation led to Florez being charged with Lozano’s murder. It is unclear what evidence led to criminal charges in this case. It is also unknown whether Florez and Lozano knew each other.

Florez’s bond was set at $1 million.
