Now that Dr. Heavenly Kimes campaign for a seat in the United States Congress is in full swing, the Married to Medicine friend is opening up about why she decided to run for political office.
After viewers saw her launch an earlier bid for the Georgia House of Representatives during Season 12, Episode 7, Dr. Heavenly is currently a candidate to represent Georgia’s 13th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives in the May 2026 Democratic primary.
“I think it was needed,” she explained in an exclusive chat with The Daily Dish. “AÂ lot of people asked me [to run], and I prayed about it. And God put it on my heart to do, and I think I can definitely be a voice for the people.”

Just as the Atlanta-area dentist’s clients at her Smiles by Dr. Heavenly practice have embraced her role on Married to Medicine, she hopes that the Georgia voters will similarly follow suit.
“I think that all publicity is good publicity,” Heavenly added. “My patients watch the show, and they love me on the show, because I tell the truth and I’m real.”
How Dr. Heavenly Kimes’ son’s arrest impacted her political career
When Dr. Heavenly launched her previous state Senate bid during Married to Medicine‘s Jan. 18 episode, she began her first campaign speech by explaining to the crowd how her estranged son Damon Kimes Jr.’s arrest had actually inspired her to enter politics for the first time.
As a refresher, Damon Jr. was arrested in February 2023 on a charge of “aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer,” according to court documents. The legal filing further stated that Damon Jr. had been charged after allegedly “driving his vehicle toward” a public safety officer employed by the Georgia State University Police Department.

Dr. Heavenly claimed to her supporters on the show that “police violence” is the “number one reason for death in our young Black men,” between the ages of 23 and 27. “Our son came home safely, but so many boys do not,” she said.
“I’m not the type of person to sit idly by and not do anything,” the mother of three continued in a confessional. “I think that God has challenged me. And if I have the opportunity to change the law, then I want to be a part of it.”
As she further declared at her campaign rally, “So many people in my community and communities surrounding have lost hope. They need to see somebody stand up. The people say, Heavenly, you’re what we need.”
Why Dr. Heavenly Kimes chose Quad Webb as her campaign manager
As Dr. Heavenly addressed her earliest supporters on Married to Medicine, there were two key people standing with her: husband Damon Kimes and her campaign manager, Miss Quad Webb, who is still part of her team today.
“When Heavenly brought it to me, like, ‘Quad, I need you to be my campaign manager,’ I said, ‘Oh baby, not a problem,'” Quad recalled to a producer. “I am in tune and in touch with the people. It’s really simple to me.”
When Dr. Contessa Metcalfe asked Heavenly directly during her event why she had chosen their castmate for such an important role in her campaign, she answered, “Quad and I have become very, very close. And she’s very smart, and she catches on quick.”
Contessa, meanwhile, agreed, but said that she just wanted to be sure that Heavenly was “serious” about running for office.
“We didn’t come to play, we came to win,” Heavenly assured her. “I am here for education, for healthcare, [and] for police reform.”
