A Georgia man was arrested last week after a 8-week-old baby was brought to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with a brain bleed caused by abusive head trauma.
Julian Chase Jalbert Sr. 27, was arrested at the hospital on Wednesday on child cruelty and battery charges, WAGA reports.
Hall County deputies were initially called to a home around 9 a.m. on January 11 for a report that the baby wasn’t breathing. The child was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville before being tranferred to the children’s hospital in Atlanta.
Investigators later checked on the baby’s twin, who, they found, had a bruise on the leg. Police said Jalbert caused both the traumatic injuries to the hospitalized baby and the lesser injury to the twin.
They said the injuries to the gravely injured child were likely caused by “violent” shaking, WSB reported.
Jalbert is being held without bond, and the Georgia Division of Family and Children’s Services now has custody of both children.
