A frightened child hiding in a closet with two other children called 911 to report a shooting in their home, and police arrived to find four adults dead.
The call came in at about 2:30 a.m. Friday in Gwinnett County, Georgia, and officers quickly arrived and found the four victims, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Using a police dog, officers found the suspected shooter in a wooded area behind the house, WANF reported.
Police said they believe the shooting was “domestic-related” but have not publicly identified the suspect or victims.
The three children were not physically harmed. Police did not provide their ages. One of those children called 911 from the closet where they were hiding, WANF said.
“It’s definitely a tragic situation. Four people dying at the same time, especially with children in the home … it’s shocking to anybody,” Gwinnett police Cpl. Angela Carter told WSB.
According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, the suspect’s vehicle was still in the driveway when officers arrived, and they found him quickly hiding behind the house. Police also said there had been prior calls for service at the house.
The children were later handed over to another family member.
