As Kyle Richards toured the renovations that new castmate Amanda Frances made to her former home on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, memories of happier times with Mauricio Umansky came flooding back — and, yes, tears were flowing.
The walk down memory lane during Season 15, Episode 7, was particularly emotional for Kyle because it only underscored how much her family life had changed as she reflected on what led to her and Mauricio’s split, which they announced in October 2023.
As Kyle explained on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show, the experience had conjured up plenty of what-if scenarios, considering the happy state of their marriage when they moved out of their Bel Air house in 2017.

“You can’t help but wonder what path you took or which detour you took affected your life,” she remarked. “Obviously, decisions we made got us to where we are right now.”
As Kyle told it, she and Mauricio were always “chasing the next thing,” instead of “loving” and “appreciating” what they had in the moment.
“I think that working so hard to keep achieving and achieving, at what point do you say, ‘You know, we’re good.’?” Kyle questioned. “So, of course, I do think back and think all the, you know, woulda, coulda, shouldas.”
Kyle Richards says daughter Portia’s poem hit her and Mauricio Umansky “really hard”
Kyle went on to recall a heartbreaking poem that their youngest daughter, Portia Umansky, who’s now 17 years old, had written in the wake of her and Mauricio’s separation after 27 years of marriage.
“[It] really hit me really hard,” Kyle admitted on the RHOBH After Show. “And I sent it to Mau, and it hit him really hard. And I just said … ‘Look what we did. Look what we allowed to happen.'”

She continued, “It’s hard when you think of it like that, you know? So, you analyze, you know, if we had maybe not done this, if we had not made these changes, if we had just stayed like we were and appreciated everything we had, what would have happened? Would things have changed anyway? I don’t know.”
How Kyle Richards reacted to touring her and Mauricio Umansky’s old house
Kyle had made similar comments while visiting her former family home on RHOBH‘s Jan. 29 episode. Though the mom of four said that she initially thought it would be “cool” to see the upgrades Amanda and fiancé Eddie Tsivislavsky had made to the house, the emotions eventually “hit [her] like a truck,” as she described to a producer amid the “strange” experience.
“When we first bought that house was when Mau really started to make a lot more money,” Kyle explained in a confessional. “We were looking for a bigger, better home. Bigger’s not always better.”
Returning to their former home and revisiting all of their happier times made Kyle realize how “extremely different” her life is today. While thinking about “how things used to be,” she wondered, “Why would anyone let that slip away? How could anyone let that slip away?”
Kyle also had a tearful heart-to-heart with Mauricio after the tour, telling him that it “was not easy” for her to see the house again.
“It just made me feel sad,” she shared. “It was a simpler time, you know, in our lives. And the girls were younger. …Sometimes I just think, what would have happened if we didn’t leave here?”
As Kyle concluded in a confessional, “Maybe we would be separated if we didn’t stay in that house. I don’t know. Of course, I think like that because my last memory in that house is us being happy. … Why did we let life, business, work, whatever, get in the way of us? How did we let this happen?”
