Months before Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula announced their split, some major cracks in their relationship were already on full display during Summer House‘s Season 10 premiere.

For starters, Amanda had already turned the page on her hopes for the storybook romance she’d always imagined having with Kyle.

“Once upon a time, I thought, like, you fall in love, and when you choose the person that you want to get married to, you’re happy,” Amanda remarked in a confessional. “And then you have kids. And then things get difficult. … I didn’t think s–t would be this hard in the first few years. Like, this is not where I thought my life would be right now.”

Kyle, for his part, hinted that his and Amanda’s summer might not be as fun as it was supposed to be.

“Every summer, Amanda just makes me feel like I don’t exist,” he vented aloud to himself in the Summer House episode, following a tense group dinner. “She just, like, doesn’t f–k with me.”

As Kyle cryptically put it to some Fourth of July party guests later on, “I’m freaked out that we’re, like, so polar opposites. She never tries to make an effort.”

How Kyle Cooke’s DJ career impacted his marriage to Amanda Batula

At least on the surface, it appeared that Kyle’s DJ career was the main source of conflict in their marriage.

After Amanda admitted that she was “not 100 percent supportive” of Kyle’s new gig, a flashback to five weeks earlier showed her venting to Ciara Miller, “I wanted him to stop going out and partying, and he found a career where he goes out late and parties. And I’m like, should I be mad about this?”

When the subject of Kyle’s DJ’ing arose during the first dinner in the Hamptons, Amanda further explained to the group, “I’ll tell you when it started. I wanted to start my own business. He got so mad about it that he decided he wanted to be a DJ to spite me and then became a DJ.”

Kyle, meanwhile, sarcastically described his wife’s assessment as “an amazing summary of events” before illustrating how she was “not listening” to him. As he concluded amid their dustup, “There’s only so much Netflix and chill, so I had to go out and DJ.”

In a confessional, Kyle admitted that his career pivot had cut into his and Amanda’s quality time, however.

“Leading up to this first weekend, we just haven’t had a ton of time to spend together,” he told a producer. “Between January and June, I spent maybe one-and-a-half weekends in the city. I’m literally DJ’ing everywhere. So, I was hoping to kind of, like, reunite and rekindle things with my wife, but, like, just right out of the gate, it was clear that, like, no. And it’s discouraging.”

Amanda Batula addressed a new Kyle Cooke cheating rumor

While catching up with Ciara, Amanda said that Kyle “gets on [her] nerves,” before detailing how his DJ gigs tend to end with him “drinking” and “partying” all night: “He finishes his set, he hangs out with the owners, he goes out with fans.”

That’s when she brought up “another f–king rumor” about Kyle allegedly cheating that a news outlet approached him to comment on. After Kyle insisted that there was “no truth to” the claim, the publication “squashed the article,” Amanda said, but the accusation still opened her eyes to a major shift in their relationship.

“The fact that I’m, like, numb to it now scares me,” she told Ciara. “I shouldn’t feel that way.”

Amanda elaborated to a producer, “I used to have crazy reactions. Like, I used to call him. I would just, like, be sobbing, and I could not sleep until he got home. And now I’m just like, f–k it. I don’t even care what he’s doing. But being “whatever” about everything is really not a good sign.”

Inside Amanda Batula and Kyle Cooke’s damning predictions for their future

That wasn’t the only bad sign of what was to come. Noting that she’d been “dealing with this for 10 years,” Amanda added that she’d “put up with” the drama, because Kyle seemed “happier” once he began DJ’ing in earnest.

Later, Carl Radke asked Kyle if he actually was happy with his life at that moment, having already observed that the couple seemed to be “drifting” apart.

“Where I’m happy is showing people a good time and, like, pressing play,” Kyle answered, prompting Carl to further question if he thought Amanda was happy.

“I don’t know what’s gonna make her happy, but I don’t know if I can do it,” Kyle confessed. “When I actually say it out loud, it becomes a little more real, and it scares me.”

Amanda, meanwhile, had another heart-to-heart with Ciara, during which she described how Kyle putting himself in “compromising situations” had led to people “assuming the worst” about their marriage — and she was having a difficult time separating fact from fiction.

“To be completely honest with you, I think something that’s really tough for me is when the whole internet is, like, rooting for our divorce,” she added. “That’s all I hear all the time. And it’s like when someone tells you something so many times, you start to believe it. I’m at a point right now where I don’t know, like, is it my thoughts or is it the internet’s thought?”

As they navigate their issues on Summer House Season 10, find out where Kyle and Amanda stand today amid their separation.
