Even after 12 seasons, Lisa Vanderpump is still managing to break new ground on Vanderpump Rules.
While greeting the cast on Part 1 of the Vanderpump Rules reunion, host Andy Cohen specifically pointed out how Jason Cohen’s rocky career path at SUR had marked a major first for Lisa.
“I don’t think we’ve ever seen Lisa demote someone quite like she demoted you,” Andy remarked to Jason, referencing his reassignment from server to host during Season 12.
When the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen host asked Jason for an update on whether he was still manning the host stand these days, he quipped, “Honestly. I wanted to be a well-rounded restaurant worker, so I figured, you know, I can work at the host stand, I can be a server-bartender maybe…”
As Andy reminded him with a laugh, “OK, well, I don’t think it was your decision, though.”

Why Lisa Vanderpump “demoted” Jason Cohen on Vanderpump Rules Season 12
Back during Episode 10, Jason had finally completed his “very long” server training at SUR, which assistant manager Demy Selem estimated had taken “four times longer than normal people.” For his first day working solo, Jason was tasked with waiting on Lisa and husband, Ken Todd.
Needless to say, the experience quickly went awry when Jason still couldn’t answer basic questions about several dishes’ ingredients. When LVP asked about the crab cakes, for example, he could offer little more info beyond that they came in cake form and tasted good.
“Of course, crab cake comes in cake form — that’s why it’s called crab cake,” Lisa remarked in a confessional. “When you’re a waiter, you have to learn the menu backwards, forwards, inside out, and upside down. And right now, I’m not sure that he does.”

So, LVP instructed Jason to send them over a new server before informing him that she was moving him over to a new position at the host stand.
“Jason’s a very charismatic guy,” Lisa explained. “He has the kind of face people like to meet as you walk in a restaurant. So that’s where he’ll live.”
Jason, for his part, took the news in stride, separately telling a producer, “Honestly, this is kind of a promotion to me because now I can just chat it up with everybody at the door. I mean, hey, I’m a great host. Come to SUR. Get the goat cheese balls. They’re good.”
Lisa Vanderpump addressed VPR cast comparisons with Andy Cohen at the reunion
In another early moment from the Vanderpump Rules reunion, Andy had complimented Lisa by remarking that she appeared to be “aging in reverse.” He also went on to ask if she could believe it had already been 13 years since they hosted their first reunion at SUR.
“Yes, I can!” LVP joked, adding, “I feel like I’ve aged way more than 13 years with the s–t I’ve been through with this lot.”
The playful jab did not appear to negate any of the love and affection she had for her new cast of SUR-vers, however, as evidenced when the WWHL host eventually asked what she would say to people who compare the reboot to earlier seasons of the show.
“I mean, of course they’re going to; I understand that,” Lisa answered. “But we’re talking about different people, different problems, different lives.”
She concluded, “What I like about this group is that they all had very strong personal stories as well. So, we kind of got in deep pretty quickly.”
