A drunk Iowa man ambushed his mother in the bathroom, stabbing her in the neck with a knife because she wouldn’t let him use her speaker.
Nathan Norrell, 21, fled the house, taking an Uber to his grandfather’s home after his mother called 911, WOI reports. Once there, he surrendered to police, claiming he didn’t remember attacking his mother because of all the alcohol and “medication.”
A criminal complaint says that after the mother denied his request to us the speaker in the bathroom, he apparently hid behind a door in the bathroom and attacked the mother when she entered later on.
The mother suffered a large cut on her neck and defensive wounds on her hands. Norrell reportedly followed her into the kitchen, where she worked on treating her injuries, and then ran away when she called 911.
The mother told police the attack was clearly “intentional” and that she “feared for her life and believed that the defendant was going to kill her.” She also told them that she found her son passed out in a bedroom two weeks earlier, armed with a kitchen knife.
West Des Moines Police said Norrell was charged with attempted murder and going armed with intent. WOI said he’s being held on a $750,000 bond.
