An 11-year-old Philadelphia boy fatally shot a his mother’s supposed boyfriend while witnessing the man physically assaulting his mother.
Philadelphia police said Jaimeer Jones-Walker, 30, was the boyfriend of the mother of the boy who killed him, but Jones-Walker did not live at the woman’s home and the pair were arguing about visitation of their newborn, who was in the hospital, WPVI reports.
Jones-Walker was pronounced dead at the scene just before midnight on Thursday.
“He was unresponsive. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to his face,” Philadelphia police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
Both the boy and his mother remained at the scene and were cooperating with investigators. They were taken to police headquarters for interviews.
The woman told police that Jones-Walker attacked her as the argument escalated from verbal to physical, according to WCAU. The boy grabbed the gun and fired a single shot to the attacker’s face, police said.
Police said they found a semi-automatic handgun on the floor in another room of the home ad believe it was used in the shooting, WPVI said.
The gun was registered to the mother, police said, and Jones-Walker’s Tesla was double-parked out on the street.
Neighbors said the pair fought frequently when Jones-Walker was at the home.
Police are still investigating, and no charges have been filed.
